Frequently Asked NextGen CM/ECF Questions

  • How do I know if I have an upgraded PACER account? Upgraded PACER accounts have usernames that are at least 8 characters. If your username is 6 characters, you do not have an upgraded account. To verify your account type, go to www.pacer.gov, click Manage My Account, and log in with your PACER credentials. Look under "Account Type". If you see "Legacy PACER Account", click the Upgrade link and follow these instructions to upgrade your PACER account.
  • What happens to my CM/ECF account after the court transitions to NextGen CM/ECF? On or after August 12, 2019, follow these instructions to link your current OKND CM/ECF account to your individual, upgraded PACER account. After the accounts are linked, you will no longer use your OKND CM/ECF username or password.
  • Once I upgrade my PACER account, will I be able to get into other courts who are not on NextGen CM/ECF? Once you upgrade your PACER account, that will be your PACER account for viewing documents in any federal court (appellate, bankruptcy, and district), whether that court is on NextGen CM/ECF or not.
  • My agency/law firm uses a shared PACER account. Can we continue to use that account? Each attorney must have an individual PACER account to use for electronic filing in NextGen CM/ECF. The agency/firm can create a PACER Administrative Account (PAA) to manage the billing for all of the individual accounts. Staff members who share a PACER account only for research can continue to share. NOTE: The PAA will not allow access to case information. Click here for PAA policies and procedures and click here for PAA registration.
  • I linked my account when the Court of Appeals converted. Do I have to link my account again after the District Court converts? Yes, on or after August 12, 2019, follow these instructions to link your PACER account to your OKND CM/ECF account in order to continue to electronically file in this Court.
  • I am a CJA attorney and I currently have two PACER accounts. Will I continue to need two accounts with NextGen? CJA attorneys only need one upgraded PACER account for filing and viewing in NextGen CM/ECF. If you have a separate exempt CJA account now, follow these instructions to request your CJA exemption privileges be added to your individual, upgraded PACER account. Newly appointed CJA attorneys with NO PACER account need only select the CJA Jurisdiction box in the Account Information Section when registering for a PACER account.
  • I have upgraded my PACER account in preparation of the Court's NextGen CM/ECF implementation. When I am in CM/ECF and try to query documents, why won't it let me? You may have previously saved your legacy PACER login and password in your OKND CM/ECF account and, therefore, it is not recognizing your new upgraded PACER username and password. You must change the default PACER login in your CM/ECF accounts in ALL courts where you have saved your legacy PACER login and password. Click here for instructions on how to change your default PACER login after a PACER account upgrade.
  • What do I have to do once your court is live? On or after August 12, 2019, follow these instructions to link your current OKND CM/ECF account to your individual, upgraded PACER account in order to continue to electronically file in this Court. After the accounts are linked, you will no longer use your OKND CM/ECF username or password.
